The game hands out companion numbers one after another, so the number tells exactly when a companion hatched. Nobody can change it, and nobody can buy it.

Milestones

Who will hatch No. 50,000,000?

Six star shells exist, and each can belong to one companion only. The first went to No. 1. The others wait for whoever hatches at the exact moment the world reaches a milestone.

Polishing

Shells grow with you.

A shell can be polished with time. When your companion is a Legend and you have been together a full year, its shell moves one step up. After two years, two steps.

  • Eggshell → Pearl → Jade → Bronze → Silver → GoldThe ladder a shell can climb. Opal and star shells come from hatching only.
  • The original shows throughA polished shell keeps fine veins of the colour it hatched with, so everyone can still tell the originals apart.
  • Earned, never boughtShells can’t be bought, sold or traded. Only hatch order and time together count.
