How to play

Two minutes to learn.

Linebeast starts like the block puzzles you know. Then a monster moves into the board, and every move becomes a little plan.

01

Drop your blocks

You get three shapes at a time. Drag each one onto the 8×8 board wherever it fits. When all three are placed, three new ones arrive.

02

Cut through it

A full row or column clears. If the line runs through the monster, the monster takes a hit. Clear several lines at once for a combo.

03

Or box it in

Surround the monster with blocks. Any monster cell with no empty space next to it gets crushed.

Try it right here

Beat your first beast. Now.

These are the first levels of the real game, running on the real game engine. Drag a shape onto the board and clear a line through the monster.

  • Full rows and columns clearEvery cleared cell of the monster costs it one health.
  • Watch the dotted spotThat is where it grows next. Put a block there to stop it.
  • Any way you likeDrag with a mouse or a finger, or pick a shape and use the arrow keys and Enter.
Level 1
Defeat the monster

Winning a level

Goals, moves and stars

Each Expedition level shows its goal at the top: defeat every monster, crush a number of monster cells, or keep the monsters small. You have a set number of moves to do it.

Finish with moves to spare and you earn up to three stars. Every world ends with a boss, and beating it opens the next world.

Ran out of moves just before the end? Once per game, your companion gives you three extra moves as a gift.

Power-ups

  • Hammer: smash one block that is in the way.
  • Shuffle: swap your three shapes for new ones.

In Today's Beast and the Hunt, everyone gets the same pieces and the same monsters, so the best player wins.

Know your beasts

Seven kinds of monster

New kinds join as you travel, and the game introduces each one when it first appears.

Goo

Grows a little every few moves. Cut it with lines or box it in.

Splitter

Cut it in two and both halves live on as smaller monsters, called Slimelets.

Shellback

Every cell has a shell. The first hit cracks it, the second one hurts.

Ghost

Every few moves it jumps somewhere else. Put a block on the dotted spot to stop it.

Bomb

Counts down, then blows up your blocks around it. Beat it before it goes off.

Muncher

Grows into your blocks and eats them.

Brood mother

Lays a baby monster every few moves on the marked spot. A block there stops it.

Tip

Plan two moves ahead

Leave room for your next shapes. A line that hits the monster and clears space for later is worth twice as much.
